IBM AIX (Operating System)

AIX (Advanced Interactive eXexcutive) is a is a proprietary operating system developed by IBM based on UNIX System V (one of the versions of Unix operating system also known as SysV.One of the common features started by this was Unix features, such as "SysV init scripts" (/etc/init.d), used to control system startup and shutdown) . Before AIX was ever marketed, the acronym AIX originally stood for Advanced IBM UNIX.

The scalable AIX 5L 5.3 supports up to 64 central processing units and two terabytes (TB) (1024 gigabytes) of random access memory. The JFS2 file system—first introduced by IBM as part of AIX—supports computer files and partitions up to 16 TB in size.We will have a detailed peak into JFS later on.

AIX V1, introduced in 1986, was based on System V Release 3. IBM later ported AIX to the RS/6000 platform as AIX/6000; since 1989, AIX has served as the RS/6000's primary operating system. The RS/6000 (for RISC System/6000), now System p5, is IBM's current RISC/UNIX-based server and workstation product line.

Hey guys lots of big words and dates but just and intro not essential to remember dates...and the big words would become easy in later sections.....so cheer up AIX is really happening......
